The block on Myyrinhalmi

The Myyrinhalmi block project in Myyrmäki, Vantaa, was launched at the end of 2015 as a town plan change project, with the aim of developing the city center block from the office and parking area into city like and residential center. The town plan change was approved at the end of 2018 on the basis of a block plan prepared by Neva Architects.

The block plan

The block includes a building right of 35,000 square meters. The design project includes six residential apartment buildings, three tower blocks and a parking garage. The plan for the block aimed for a diverse cityscape, with different kinds of facade materials, colors and construction techniques. The facade world is mainly defined by brick walls built on site, and the architecture of the block is focused on diversity, especially in materiality and roof shapes. Different kinds of roof materials and shapes are used inculding green roofs and pitched roofs and so-called attic apartments.

The massing of the block varies with different height buildings, which creates smaller courtyards between buildings blocks, and creates
a car free zone aswell.

The expression of the tower houses calms and balances the overall impression of the block, which is diversified by the lower 4- to 9-story building components. The arcades next to retail spaces on the ground floor around the block create an active and vibrant city space around them.
